Bellevue University’s Scholarships & Grants Department Co-hosted Financial Literacy Event

Wednesday, July 31, 2019

Bellevue University’s Scholarships & Grants Department co-hosted a Financial Literacy Event in conjunction with the school’s Student Life Office.

Over the lunch hour, students had the opportunity to meet with financial counselors in the student center and discuss their current student loan debt. Some students were able to easily share they had not yet borrowed any student loans, while others were overwhelmed to learn how much debt they had already incurred. Attendees were provided handouts with various details about the nation’s current student loan debt crisis, and some of these facts were displayed on a large window in the student center.

To lighten up the mood, students could enter into a “cash cube” of flying fake money to win fun prizes. Each participant had 30 seconds to catch as much flying money as they could, and some bills were labeled with specific prizes. Prizes included t-shirts, water bottles, ID holders, and gift cards to several local restaurants.

Next year, the University seeks to offer multiple events throughout the month of April to greater emphasize the importance of financial literacy.
