Presenters:

Jennifer Witherbee, Executive Director, and Kelsey Martinson, Student Outreach Coordinator at the Washington Apple Education Foundation

Description:

At the Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF), we believe it takes more than just monetary funding to support students though college graduation. From the time students are identified as a ‘WAEF’ student, a variety of support services are offered to them. These services go beyond just simply funding students. Join us as we discuss the types of services we provide, why we do it, and how our students are impacted.

Presenter Bios:

Jennifer Witherbee is the executive director of the Washington Apple Education Foundation. She has been in the position since 2001 and was involved in helping the foundation establish itself as the charity of the tree fruit industry.

Annually the Washington Apple Education Foundation now awards over $1 million in scholarships to students with parents employed in the tree fruit industry, the vast majority first generation college students. In addition to financial support, the WAEF engages students in support beyond the scholarship to boost degree completion and prepare for post-graduation success.

Jennifer has an undergraduate degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and a Master of Business Administration. Recently, she completed a course in Strategic Perspectives for Nonprofit Management through Harvard Business School Executive Education.

Kelsey Martinson joined the Washington Apple Education Foundation in July of 2017. Prior to working for the foundation, she was a teacher at the Eastmont School District, in East Wenatchee, WA where she taught a variety of grade levels.
Kelsey graduated from Washington State University with a bachelor’s degree in education, and then went on to complete her graduate degree in educational leadership and administration.
