A Letter from NSPA’s New Executive Director, Jackie Bright

As many of you know, NSPA is on an exciting path. Your collective vision, passion, and experience has forged NSPA into a leader in the scholarship provider network and together, we will make this organization the leader in the higher education community. I’m incredibly honored to join the team and carry forward this remarkable culture of excellence and best practice. The need for NSPA and the work you do is more important now than ever. Every second, $2,858 of student loan debt accrues. Every. Second. My commitment to you, our members and stakeholders, is to ensure you have the necessary support to continue moving the needle to support the students you serve.

My passion for this mission stems from my own humble beginnings. I relied on scholarships and aid to complete college, but after my second year, my financial support declined. I was forced to leave college to work full time - the number one reason cited by students who drop out of higher education. Fortunately, I could return and complete my education, but many students are not so lucky. I have since dedicated my career to helping both nonprofit organizations and community members overcome obstacles to actualizing their success.

What’s ahead? Beginning in late November I’ll be embarking on a listening tour. I want to learn from you - the subject matter experts – to understand the challenges and opportunities you face. I’m also excited to share that I’ll be based in Charlottesville, Virginia, just a stone’s throw from D.C., and looking forward to utilizing my proximity to increase our advocacy efforts. The future is certainly bright (no pun intended!) and I look forward to designing it together with you!

About Jackie
Jackie is an innovative and celebrated leader with over a decade of nonprofit leadership experience. Most recently, she served as the Executive Director for the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA where she managed a multi-million budget, a staff of 60, and provided guidance and support for over 500 volunteers. She has been recognized by the Virginia Daily Progress as a “Charlottesville Woman We Love” and by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America for developing and maintaining a “Gold Standard” program. Jackie holds an undergraduate degree in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Public Discourse, as well as a Certificate in Leadership from UVA’s Darden School of Business. Aside from Bright’s commitment to nonprofit excellence, she loves wrangling her three dogs, antiquing, the outdoors, and sheet cake (in that order).
